Day 1 ALB NACA/ NISN

Homies Empowerment was chosen to join Native American Community Academy‘s NISN School Design Lab. Dr. César Cruz has journeyed from Oakland to ABQ to be part of the initial convening the week of August 5-9th. Homies will be in a 2-yr. fellowship. Here are some of the takeaways from day 1:

1. Power of land based education, combat 6 hours per day of sitting based schooling, experiential learning with the land is key.                                                                                              
2. Students can doctor (heal) themselves, learn about the herbal medicines, make their own medicines tea and grind the medicine with molcajetes.
3. Indigenous protocol: Ask permission, Stop and acknowledge space and land, Refer to land and plants as relatives
